Melody Duo
Melody Duo grew from Josephine Torio’s and my, almost weekly musical practice over the last year (which we conducted and recorded via zoom where we each made up and sang a melodic line and repeated or resequenced notes, monitored tuning on a device, all while experiencing latency and electronic artifacts inherent to the platform) which now sounds nothing like our practice - with an electronic environment created from amplified tuning forks, field recording, feedback, wave forms, and vocal processing.
Our premier performance was held on Wednesday, November 2nd, 2022 for the Outsound New Music Series at Luggage Store Gallery in San Francisco. Thanks to Rent Romus. Thanks to Alice Wu for the photos from the performance.
Creating a melody is so weird.
When a melody starts showing up
It's often
Disorienting.
One note here,
A couple notes there,
Long pauses in between,
It disappears,
It comes back,
Who knows.
I sometimes try to call it back.
By writing it down, recording, singing, humming
Or by getting lost in memories...
One time
Listening for a sign
The air became really still.
Then I felt the melody
Start to creep in...
This time I knew.
What was happening...
